Digitrax FAQs

Q: Phase Reversal, DB150

This is a known issue with the DB150. When operated as a booster only, it may randomly reverse the phase of the track output.

One solution is to energize the command station first, allow it to initialize the LocoNet throttle network first, then power up any auxiliary boosters. The DB150 is known to incorrectly sync to the RailSync signal and provide an out-0f-phase track signal. This causes issues between booster districts. Preventing it from powering up at the same time as the command station can eliminate this issue.

A common solution is the addition of a DPDT toggle switch to the track output of the booster, allowing any phase mismatch to be corrected by reversing the connections to the track.

Q: What do the Number of Beeps Made by a Digitrax Command Station Mean?

Digitrax Command Stations will emit a number of audible beeps, which are messages indicating the status of the command station.

There can be slight differences between command stations, and the DCS210/DCS240 have additional alerts related to their increased capabilities.

If there are twenty beeps, the LocoNet may be overloaded. Disconnect the LocoNet and it should stop. The solution is to ensure that LocoNet is getting power from an alternative source so as to not load down the command station.

Q: Upgrading to a Digitrax Zephyr Express from a Zephyr or Zephyr Xtra

If upgrading your DCS50 or DCS51, known as the Zephyr / Zephyr Xtra, to a Zephyr Express (DCS52), it is important to know that the connections are reversed.

While the connector can be removed from the old command station and will directly plug into a Zephyr Extra, the actual connections have been reversed compared to the previous versions of the Zephyr, despite the labels having the same sequence. The connector itself is keyed, so it only fits in one orientation.

It will be necessary to transfer the wires to the correct connections on the connector. The image shows the back panel of a DCS51 in a vertical orientation, in normal use the legend would be above the connections. Whereas the screw terminals would be on the right, on the DCS52 the terminals would on the left (reversed). The legend on the DCS52 is beneath the connector.

DCS50/DCS51 connector port. Connector removed for clarity. The connections on the DCS52 are reversed. The screws would be toward the right if the connector were installed.
